MAKE 2023 A SUCCESS WITH 2022 INSIGHT

Haworth hosts experts for a discussion on how the power of nature, building resilience and small improvements help create the greatest places to work.

December 20, 2022 – As the year draws to a close, the ever-evolving work from anywhere world continues to require new ways to get work done. Flexibility and resolve are put to the test every day while experience, creativity and innovation are providing more choices in where and how work gets done. Haworth Connect hosted an expert discussion with insights gained in 2022 and eye towards success in 2023. The final event of the year was a special panel presentation with John Scott, Adam Markel, Eric Termuende and moderator Marta Wassenaar.

Moderator Wassenaar asked the panelists to share their thoughts on the power of nature to boost well-being, leveraging uncertainty to build resilience and how consistently making small improvements can help us create spaces that restore and inspire people.

There are benefits to bringing the outdoors into the office, said Scott, a Senior Workplace Design Strategist at Haworth, who helps clients understand the link between design and business performance.

“Outdoor work environments are going to continue to take on greater meaning in the new year. We really have to think about how we put ourselves in the right environment, both indoors and outdoors, to feel happier, healthier and more productive," Scott said.

Exposure to the outdoors also has a strong connection to resilience, added Markel, best-selling author of “Pivot: The Art & Science of Reinventing Your Career and Life.”

"I am a big fan of the walk-and-talk meeting,” Markel said. “Getting out 20 and 30 minutes at a time, simply being in nature and breathing fresh air, is phenomenal. The change that comes over you lowers your blood pressure and cures hypertension. It changes your physiology in a way that allows you to recover more quickly from the stress that you're facing."

Listen to more from Termuende, as well as Scott, Markel and Wassanar here. Both future and past Haworth Connect events are available here. See you in 2023!
