November 20, 2023 – Haworth’s Cardigan Lounge, a sustainable and versatile lounge chair for modern workspaces, recently won a Gold IDEA award from the Industrial Designers Society of America (IDSA) in the Furniture and Lighting category. Celebrating excellence for over four decades, the IDSA IDEA awards are one of the longest running and most prestigious design award programs in existence.
“Receiving this acclaimed award holds great significance to us because it comes from fellow designers and visionaries,” said Michael Warsaw, Haworth Vice President of Global Design and Innovation. “We’re thankful to IDSA and the IDEA jury for the honor of this award.”
As work locations become more fluid and workspaces more collaborative, the need for lounge seating is increasing. A collaboration between Haworth and renowned designer Patricia Urquiola, the Cardigan Lounge features a simple and sustainable design. It conveys a lightness at first sight and the cozy digital-knit upholstery warms up a space.
The Cardigan Lounge combines a lightweight design with inviting warmth and comfort. It is comprised of a sturdy steel frame, a customizable 3D knit fabric, high-quality foam and six screws. The chair requires no glue for assembly, making disassembly effortless. This streamlined approach aligns with Haworth’s circularity goals, minimizing environmental impact throughout its lifecycle.
Originally founded in 1980 to recognize exceptional achievement in industrial design, the IDEA award program from IDSA has grown to highlight design in many connected disciplines, including design strategy, branding, digital interaction and more. Each year, the jury reviews IDEA entries across 5 criteria: design innovation, benefit to user, benefit to client/brand, benefit to society and appropriate aesthetics. Winners reveal the tremendous significance of design in business, society and beyond, thus proving that great results are possible when design is leveraged to its fullest potential.
