Haworth's Sustainability Strategy

At Haworth, our global sustainability strategy ensures that resources are available for future generations by focusing on 3 key pillars: people, circular economy, and operational performance. Within each pillar, we've made strong commitments to guide our targeted efforts toward a more sustainable future.

Understanding Circular Economy

A circular economy is vital to sustainability, and Haworth embraces its 3 core principles: eliminating waste, extending product life at its highest value, and regenerating natural systems. This approach drives us to innovate and maintain environmental stewardship in all we do.

Integrating Sustainability into Product Design

Sustainability at Haworth starts from the design phase. We prioritize sustainable materials, ease of parts replacement, and product end-of-life recycling. Our products are designed for longevity and easy disassembly, promoting reuse and recycling. This philosophy is applied to all our offerings, ensuring sustainability is embedded into all of our products.

Communication of Sustainability Progress

Third-party validation is an important part of our circular design philosophy to ensure credibility and trust. Our certifications, easily accessible on the Haworth Ecomedes portal, provide comprehensive data and information about our products' sustainability attributes.

Sustainability Accolades

Haworth has consistently demonstrated leadership in sustainability through various notable achievements:

  • Zero-Waste-to-Landfill – Haworth is proud to be the first in the industry to achieve zero-waste-to-landfill status in 2012.
  • BIFMA LEVEL – We adhere to the BIFMA LEVEL, which is the industry’s furniture sustainability standard. Over 90% of our products sold are certified to BIFMA LEVEL 3, the highest rating possible.
  • Cradle to Cradle Certified®Version 4.0 – Zody II and Zody LX are the first and only furniture products to be certified under this latest, most rigorous standard. Cradle to Cradle Certified® is a registered trademark of the Cradle to Cradle Products Innovation Institute.
  • Net-Zero Carbon Targets – We have set ambitious net-zero carbon targets validated through the Science Based Targets initiative, further cementing our leadership in sustainability.
  • GREENGUARD – Our GREENGUARD and GREENGUARD Gold certifications indicate that our products use low-emitting process chemicals.

I think one thing that sets Haworth apart is that sustainability is ingrained in our values. So, we really live and breathe it every day. Our team has very diverse backgrounds, and really, the common thread that ties us all together is that passion for sustainability.
