Course Description

Explore the beauty, versatility, and performance of wood veneer in design applications. This course provides a foundational understanding of how veneer is manufactured—from forest to finished panel—and how its natural characteristics influence both aesthetics and performance. Participants will learn best practices for specifying veneer, how it compares to solid wood and laminate, and how to maintain its appearance over time.

This 1-hour course equips attendees with the knowledge and confidence to incorporate veneer into their design projects.

Learning Objectives 

  • Describe the veneer manufacturing process from field to factory, including log preparation, conditioning, slicing techniques, drying, trimming, and grading.  
  • Identify the natural characteristics inherent in wood veneer, including the factors that contribute to its unique appearance.  
  • Explain how veneer is laid up on panels and applied to furniture, and how these techniques support design and production.  
  • Recognize when and how to specify veneer for design projects, using best practices that align with client needs and design intent.  
  • Demonstrate proper care and maintenance of veneer surfaces to preserve their beauty and longevity.
