May 23, 2018 – The Healthy Workplace Nudge: How Healthy People, Culture and Buildings Lead to High Performance, co-authored by Dr. Michael O’Neill, Rex Miller and Phil Williams, is the culmination of a multi-year, Haworth sponsored research project comprised of 100 corporate leaders and experts. The findings: workplace wellness programs aren’t working. Through the concepts of behavioral economics, the book explores why and draws on the connection between workspace design and employee well being that goes beyond physical health.

The research from The Healthy Workplace Nudge found fresh ways that organizations have tackled the problems of employee health costs and disengagement:

  • Waking up to the fact that 95% of traditional wellness programs fail to improve health or lower costs
  • Recognizing that well-being leads to health and high performance
  • Utilizing behavioral economics as a powerful new tool to nudge healthy behavior
  • Realizing that healthy buildings are now cost effective and produce your strongest ROI to improving health
  • Having leaders who develop healthy cultures to achieve sustainable high performance and employee wellbeing

In addition to proving highly effective, these approaches represent a fraction of the cost sunk into traditional wellness and engagement programs.
