Design for Sustainability: Featuring Oceanic Textiles with Alexis Putman

Plastics are embedded in the lives of billions around the world—but at what cost? Over the years, plastic waste has accumulated in landfills and oceans—wreaking havoc on our various intertwined ecosystems. Finding ways to upcycle our waste can transform discarded plastic from environmental hazard to new and different useful products. With an eye for new advancements, Camira Fabrics, a long-time partner with Haworth, brought us Oceanic, the latest in a series of recycled yarn developments constructed from ocean waste. Through the SEAQUAL Initiative, marine debris is transformed into a new type of raw material known as Upcycled Marine Plastic and converted to SEAQUAL® YARN, bringing to life possibilities for textile use in a multitude of applications.
