Liz Johnson
“There are many commanding design and life influences that bombard us with too much noise. I believe there must be a balance between our busy world and our human values. My design philosophy for materials and finishes is to keep things simple, truthful, integral to the product and innovative. In our world of wonders and challenges, materials can be powerful, expressive, calming, inspiring and everything in between, but most of all they are a silent link to our humanity.”
Liz joined Haworth in 1989 and serves as Senior Industrial Designer. She is responsible for establishment of creative new textile and finish designs that respond to current and future design, technological, consumer, and environmental needs in relation to function, performance, manufacturability and profit.
Prior to Haworth, she served as marketing representative for Guilford of Maine, Inc – a contract fabric manufacturer. Her experience includes development of custom fabrics for customer applications, liaison to architects and design professionals for product specification and contributing to the development of new products.
Liz graduated from Kendall School of Design with a degree in Interior Design and a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Aquinas College in 1985.
She is a board member of the Association for Contract Textiles and a member of many color and trend associations. She is devoted to her husband and twins – together they love riding, soccer, golf and family time on Lake Michigan.
