Haworth Reports Strong 2010 Sales Results

May 29, 2013

HOLLAND, MI – February 9, 2011 – Haworth, Inc. today announced that 2010 global sales reached $1.21 billion, an increase of 9%. The growth was boosted by strong results in North America, with sales growing at more than twice the rate of the industry, as well as Asia and emerging markets.  Northern Europe also experienced solid growth, though at a lesser rate.

Franco Bianchi, Haworth President & CEO: “Haworth results have again benefited from the execution of our unique strategic direction, which is resonating with our customers. Increasingly, organizations around the world are coming to Haworth to partner in developing integrated interior solutions for their workplace needs. As the economy begins to recover, we are well positioned to continue gaining market share as our employees and dealers deliver exceptional value.  Despite the economic challenges of the past two years, we are cautiously optimistic moving forward and excited that our strategy will lead to continued success.”

Haworth’s continued investment in new products contributed to the launch of several new product platforms in 2010. One of Haworth’s most successful projects, the Very® Task Chair, had a global introduction at NeoCon and Orgatec. Part of the growing Very family of seating, the chair provides science-based ergonomics, personalized comfort, design and durability at a sensible price. Haworth received NeoCon Gold in Seating: Conference and NeoCon Silver in Seating: Ergonomic Desk/Task for the Very Task chair.

Also at NeoCon 2010, Haworth revealed a new showroom with an inspiring vision that featured Compose wood storage, Enclose frameless glass walls, the Kiron European desking system, Tuohy casegoods and Cloud sculptures with Kvadrat, as well as a Terrazzo flooring hybrid with Haworth’s raised access base and Tecnika tiles by Monotile. Haworth received NeoCon Gold in the Walls: Movable category and Groupe Lacasse received NeoCon Gold: Systems Furniture for C.I.T.E (Collaborative, Innovative, Teaming Environments). In addition, Tuohy, where Haworth has a minority investment, received a NeoCon Silver: Casegoods for the Prato collection. At Orgatec 2010, Haworth set a new benchmark with a dynamic organic workspace booth and large array of product introductions, including LTB lounge furniture, MeetYou privacy elements, the T_up desk system, the Vados storage system and Esedra3 glass walls.

Haworth’s LIM (Light in Motion) and Very chair won prestigious gold 2010 International Design Excellence Awards given out by the Industrial Designers Society of America and 2010 Red Dot Awards from the Design Centre Nordrhein Westfalen in Essen, Germany. LIM also won an iF 2010 Product Design Award from The International Design Forum in Hannover, Germany.

During 2010, Haworth continued its sustainable journey and released a sustainability report – the company’s fifth annual. The company reported on sustainable products, Zero Waste to Landfill, energy management, sustainable workspace design, greenhouse gas emissions, green transportation, green building, social responsibility and stakeholder engagement.

Haworth’s global headquarters and the San Francisco and New York City showrooms achieved LEED gold certification from the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) in 2010. The headquarters also earned the US Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) ENERGY STAR®. With the addition of these certifications, Haworth has 11 LEED Gold spaces globally, including showrooms in Zurich, Switzerland, Shanghai, China, and Pune, India.  Haworth also continued to improve operational efficiencies by consolidating movable wall and wood casegood manufacturing into existing West Michigan facilities.

During 2010, Haworth certified over 50 products with level™ - the Business and Institutional Furniture Manufacturer’s Association Product Sustainability Standard. With this multi-attribute certification that reviews both environmental and social impacts, customers can make informed choices about commercial furniture and modular interiors. The certification also identifies that a product has been vetted by an independent certifier.

Haworth is also proud to be recognized for efforts related to social responsibility, including being awarded the 2010 Michigan Minority Supplier Diversity Council (MMSDC) Corporation of the Year – Commercial Products.  And, for the 2nd year in a row, the company was recognized with a MMSDC Corporate One Award.
