Eliminate harmful emissions associated with the distribution of Haworth products and services and member business travel.
Eliminate waste and emissions associated with corporate operations and the production of products and service as well as member business travel. This includes elimination of all greenhouse gases.
Use green building design and practices to construct new buildings and interior renovations for all Haworth facilities worldwide and ensure sites are managed for sustainability.
As a leading global manufacturer, Haworth is committed to following a path of sustainable energy management, green transportation, green building, and sustainable site management. Our initial, actionable goals also include maintaining zero-waste-to-landfill status in all of our sectors worldwide and continuously reducing harmful emissions.
Holding ourselves accountable and measuring the effectiveness of our sustainability practices is critical to Haworth's commitment to corporate responsibility. One of our most tangible goals was to achieve zero-waste-to-landfill (ZWTL) status globally. This means that no byproducts form our production processes end up in a landfill. By 2009, we attained ZWTL in North America and Asia-Pacific, leaving only our operations in Europe into compliance in order to fulfill our global objective. In 2012 Haworth's Portuguese facilities diverted all waste from going to a landfill which resulted in all of our global sites being landfill-free..
While our greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions are relatively low compared to other industries, we recognize that we have much to do in order to meet our long-term objective of becoming climate neutral. We joined the US Environmental Protection Agency's Climate Leaders program in 2005 and pledged to reduce GHG emissions through production efficiencies, capital investment, and sourcing renewable energy.
In 2010, we completed ISO 14001 certification for all of our global manufacturing facilities. The ISO 14001 process of "plan, do, check, and act" provides structure and accountability for pollution prevention and continuous improvement. We require managers to review progress of environmental goals each month - at the plant and sector levels. Each year, the entire system is audited by a third party. we also seek to work with supply chain partners who value and practice sustainable processes. Suppliers' are scored annually for sustainable activities including ISO 14001 certification.
